Our meeting will feature two speakers:
“An Introduction to the Human Trafficking Problem”
and NFRW 4th Vice President Martha Jenkins will tell us about the Keep Nine Amendment to save the independence of the Supreme Court.
Ms. Backus is involved with an incredible organization called Operation Underground Railroad (OUR). Last July, on World Day Against Human Trafficking, she organized a rally in downtown Raleigh to raise awareness around this issue that the media, politicians, and celebrities continue to be silent about. Human trafficking is an industry that generates $32 Billion a year. There are 40 million modern days slaves living among us, and 1 in 4 of them is a child. She realized just how awful this issue truly is when she began talking about it on social media – the louder she got about this issue, the more big tech tried to silence her. Since then, she has had multiple instagram accounts deleted or censored, and it all began once she started talking about human trafficking and trying to bring more awareness to the issue. Sadly, this is not uncommon. Most of the activists in this fight are constantly being banned from social media platforms.
The Keep Nine Amendment to prevent packing of the Supreme Court.
Ms. Jenkins is the 4th vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). She is director of NFRW Region 7, and she is the advisor to the NFRW Legislation and Research, Armed Services, Homeland Security, and Resolutions committees. Currently, Ms. Jenkins is working with ‘Keep Nine’, legislation that is being proposed in Congress to keep the Supreme Court at 9 justices.
Ms. Jenkins has served in many roles in the Republican Party and the Federation. After serving as the President of her club, and NCFRW vice president for two terms, Martha became the President of the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women in 2003, serving five years in that post. In 2007, she won the prestigious Ronald Reagan Award for being the Outstanding State President. She has been a Presidential Elector twice, in 2004 and in 2016, and delegate or alternate to three RNC Conventions. Martha is a member of the NCGOP Hall of Fame.
